Collections 🗞️

Major Announcement

ezgif.com-optimize (2).gif

AI-Powered Collections Collections, powered by AI, compile a summary of tech news from multiple sources into a single post. This feature helps developers quickly grasp the full scope of a story, saving time and providing a one-stop resource for understanding tech events in depth.

Do you know that annoying colleague who always knows everything that’s going on? Never misses a beat? Good news! Now, you could be that person. Introducing daily.dev Collections.

Let’s imagine you were on a different planet in mid November and missed all the OpenAI drama. You come back to find the story showing up everywhere, but you’re just chasing it. As soon as you’ve read one article, another update has been published, your feed is flooded with stories on the same topic, and you can't get ahead of it. 🥵

Collections take all the news that has come out on the same topic from multiple sources and creates a concise, complete summary of what’s going on. As new articles come out, the Collection is updated so that it gives you the latest overview of everything you need to know.

💡 If you want to read more, Collections display the sources they’re based on, so that you can read the original.

💡 You can also subscribe to a collection for a notification every time it’s updated so that you always know the latest.

You can recognize collections because, they'll say "collections". We know, sophisticated, right?! 😎

A gift from daily.dev to daily.dev 🎁

New

compressed-ido-smile.gif

When we build new features, we’re always thinking about what would make our users happy.

Until now. Here, we’re just thinking about ourselves.

Introducing, the new daily.dev referral program. 💜

You see, we’re a business. And just like every business, we need to grow.

After trying lots of innovative, expensive methods, we found that the very best way to grow, is to just ask for your help.

So help us show up marketing, and prove that it’s features not influencers who grow great developer platforms.

While doing so, you may just become mega popular with your friends for pointing them in our direction and changing their lives forever.

Maybe.

What’s for sure is that you’ll make Ido, our CTO happy again. He’s a developer so that’s a rare occurrence, just like a miracle, and it’s the season for miracles. 👼🎄🎅

Weekly digest

New

weekly-digest-animation_1-min.gif

We know how important it is for developers to stay up to date at daily.dev. If we were the kind of start up that uses the word "mission" it would probably be right up there.

Sometimes, life is easy, and personal updates are delivered to your doorstep on a silver platter, or in this case, your inbox.

In the next few weeks we will be rolling out daily.dev digest, a weekly digest that's personalized for you, based on your interests or reading history. 💫

Q&A:

  • Yes of course you can opt. out. Just go to your profile (top right corner), notifications, and toggle the digest off. Will you miss out? Probably.
  • Can you get the digest more frequently? Soon.

Hold on to your hats. 👒

New feed algorithm (and a small surprise 👾)

Improvement

Feed algorithm v5.gif

Today we're announcing the general availability of a new feed algorithm!

This feed is a mix of content you love to read (at least what we think you like to read 😉) and content that users with similar interests to yours have read in the past.

We believe it's a good mix of sticking to your own interests while also expanding your horizon to new and exciting domains. Throughout the experimentation phase we experienced 30% more upvotes, so hopefully you'll agree with us. 🙈

There is another small surprise. Have you noticed that TLDR has really improved? The TLDR is now powered by OpenAI, and we're very pleased. Enjoy!

Customize notifications per Squad 👀

Improvement

Feedback for this please! (1).gif

Not all Squads were created equal. You're going to want to stay on top of everything that's going on in one Squad, and keep notifications from another Squad just some of the time.

For this reason, you can now customize the notifications you get for each Squad. On the Squad page, go to the top right corner and click the 🔔 icon to tailor notifications and make them just right for you.

Promote to moderator in Squads 👔

A great Squad has a lot of power to it. And we all know that "With great power comes great…"

Share your Squads' power and responsibility with fellow admins and moderators who will create content, monitor activity and build a community together with you.

Inviting someone to lead is special, so we've built a special journey to make it all more festive and spell out the new permissions and abilities.

So go ahead, invite a friend or colleague for the ride, and build the next great Squad.

Pinned posts in Squads 📌

Improvement

pinapost.png

The real estate at the very top of your Squad is like the Boardwalk in monopoly, the most valuable one you've got. This is where most eye balls will land. It's a chance to drive attention to what's most important to you: a recent update, your most engaging content, set expectations.

Squad admins and moderators can now pin posts so that they stay at the very top of the feed. You can pin as many posts as you'd like (though we'd recommend keeping it minimal so that content refreshes).

A few things to note (or: put a pin in it):

📌 You can pin and unpin your Squad guidelines just like other posts (we'd recommend keeping them at the top).

📌 The first post, will be the last pinned, so you may want to play around to get the exact setup you want.

Just another feature to make running a Squad smooth and simply for you Squad builders out there. Happy pinning!

Onboarding checklist for your new Squad ✅

Improvement

squads v5 (2).png

Adulting can be so stressful, starting a Squad doesn't have to be.

We've added a nifty improvement to make starting a Squad a no brainer 🧠

Open a new Squad, and sit back while we guide you on your Squad building journey. Once you've opened the Squad, a checklist will pop up in your new Squad to guide you how best to get started: guidelines, writing posts, inviting friends. Follow the v's to get things going. ✅

Jokes aside, growing and maintaining a Squad or a community of developers requires intention and perseverance, we're here to make getting started as smooth as possible.

Create new post 💌

Improvement

new_post_v6_2.png

Have you noticed that in Squads you can create new posts? You can express yourself, share thoughts, questions and ideas! 💡

On the daily.dev feed you have the option of suggesting sources or submitting links (once you have the required reputation). On Squads, however, you can create any kind of post you'd like: write a thought or a question, add an image (always a great idea), and share it with the world.

Note that some Squads may only allow moderators to post, so you won't be able to post in them. Other Squads are just waiting for you to share your thoughts, so go ahead!

We can't wait to see what you're up to.

Introducing the Squads directory 📖

New

Comp 2_2-min.gif

Last week, we introduced daily.dev Squads: A first-ever multiplayer experience on daily.dev.

But what good are Squads if you don’t know about them? 🔎 Today, we’re introducing our daily.dev Squads directory.

Because we’re all seeking valuable, interesting communities to join, and the people who build and nurture these communities deserve an opportunity to be discovered and grow🌲

For now, the daily.dev Squads directory has four select Squads, which we’ve built ourselves (check them out!), with more Squads on the way.

Can any Squad be on the directory? 🤔

The Squads directory features public Squads only. It means that your Squad will not appear in the directory as long as it's a private Squad.

If you’d like to apply to make your Squad a public Squad, you can click to join the waitlist (the button is in the directory).

Go ahead, check it out! We hope you’ll find a Squad that sparks your curiosity.✨ https://app.daily.dev/squads

Our recommendation 🤩 Check out the AI Squad. We’ve brought in incredible thought leaders to lead this Squad with us. Thought leaders from OpenAI, AssemblyAI, Google, entrepreneurs and others. Be one of the first to join!
